Through Christ’s substitutionary, sacrificial death and resurrection came our salvation. What man did in sin, God transformed into the most beautiful gift of all. “And we know that for those who love God,” we are promised, “all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose.”īecause in that sacrifice, in that degrading death, were the seeds of life that nothing could touch ever again. When life doesn’t make sense, Romans 8:28 is the passage we often run to. Why a Cameroonian fired at a stranger who had come to Africa motivated by love. Why a mother must tell her children that their daddy is never coming home to them. In the wake of the tragedy that left Charles’s wife, Stephanie, a widow and his eight young children fatherless, many of us were trying to grasp why this had happened. When Charles Wesco died in West Africa on October 30, 2018, just weeks after he and his family had moved across the world to become missionaries of the hope and love of Christ, shock and sorrow rippled through families and churches back home in the United States. I grew up in church with this family-playing four square in the church parking lot, listening as two of the Wesco brothers taught my children’s class, curiously watching as one of them tuned the piano in my living room, seated in a pew among the audience at one of their weddings.Īnd now.Charles Wesco had been killed on the mission field in Cameroon. Snippets of memories tied to the Wescos mark my childhood years. Those seven words would resonate in my mind for days, interwoven with tears and prayers. “Charles Wesco was shot in the head.” I was standing in my kitchen on a cold Tuesday morning when the news from distant Cameroon reached my ears. Ultimately, it is a reminder from God’s Word that He will never abandon us and His plan for a fruitful life will always remain.Horror wound around me like a chokehold. We are taught that there is an appointed time to mourn, laugh, and love one another, plus cultivate relationships with others while being dedicated to our own personal journey. These memorable words encourage individuals to accept the role of faith in all seasons and live without haste since God is in control of timing along our journey. This passage offers a timeless message about life, reminding us that there is a time for everything under Heaven. All the good that we have and all the good we see is from Him.įor everything there is a season, and a time for every matter under heaven:Ī time to plant, and a time to pluck up what is planted Ī time to break down, and a time to build up ĥ a time to cast away stones, and a time to gather stones together Ī time to embrace, and a time to refrain from embracing Ī time to keep silence, and a time to speak He breathed life into Adam and Eve, and made them to rule over all that He created on earth. Then, for His greatest creation He made mankind. He created plants and trees, creatures in the water, sky, and on the ground. Then He began creating life, as all life is from God and for God. In Genesis 1 God created light, water, sky, and dry ground. God created all life on earth as described in Genesis, the first book of the Bible. And God said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply and fill the earth and subdue it, and have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the heavens and over every living thing that moves on the earth.” And let them have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the heavens and over the livestock and over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.”Ģ7 So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him male and female he created them.Ģ8 And God blessed them. Then God said, “Let us make man in our image, after our likeness.
